I created this vase with a deep black base, with off-center white wraps, creating a series of u-shaped lines.
It involves many processes to achieve the final shape.
Dimensions: 4 x 3 inches
A slab of glass was formed after the different colours were fired together in a kiln at a temperature of around 1480 F.
The firing is finished and they came out of the kiln showing them in only one solid and happy piece.
To achieve the deep drop vessel shape, I suspend that same slab of glass on top of a drop in mold in the kiln while it slowly softens and melts through a hole.
The vase was then cut out of the glass, which resembled a top hat, and the rim was cut off.
The edge was polished.
This art piece has been fired multiple times and annealed for lasting durability.
Fused Glass technique is about glasses that have been heated in a kiln to the point where at least two separate pieces of glass are permanently joined as one without losing their individual colour.
